Wait and see....

I can remember as a child when asking my mother certain questions she would say ‘Wait and see’. That made me excited: what would happen? Would I get something nice? I realise now that it was just her kind way of saying ‘I don’t know’.

Today, I get so many questions about the menopause that I am unable answer precisely, such as ‘when will it start?’ ‘how long will it last?’, ‘what symptoms will I get?’. I would just love to be able to say ‘wait and see’ but most women want to know now exactly what is going to happen to them and when.

The menopause is our own individual story. Each woman will have a unique set of symptoms and these will very often be decided on by their health, diet, lifestyle choices, emotional outlook and even hereditary predispositions. You really cannot predict what you are likely to experience.

For most women the menopause will be a relatively easy transition with, maybe, minor or annoying symptoms. For others it may be a difficult time, with a combination of symptoms that seem impossible to resolve.

For a few women it can be a time of great distress, frightening symptoms and the fear of not finding any help or support. However, there are many things that you as an individual can do to help yourself, from changing your diet, reducing stress and seeking help from other sources. View our tips for a health menopause web page.

Our aim on this website is to give as much detailed information as we can, to help with individual symptoms, to refer you to other healthcare professionals if necessary, and we are always happy to take the time to chat to you, offer advice or even just to listen whilst you have a good moan! You can chat to me now via our live chat service.

We hope you will add your own story here. Remember that reading about other women’s experiences, hardships and successes will help someone else somewhere! A lovely uplifting book on one woman’s difficult journey through the menopause is A Stranger in My own Skin by Susan Irwin published by lulu.com.
