I'm 47, soon to be 48. I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago due to several benign cysts and polyps in my uterus causing severe pain and heavy bleeding. I have been experiencing several signs of menopause. But this severe nausea and hot flashes have recently started. I'm on day three of Amberen. I sure hope it begins to help me soon. Any suggestions from anyone? I also have a very stressful job, and I read that stress can trigger the symptoms even more. Help

Hi Stephanie Nausea is a common symptom in the menopause and can be caused by several factors. Fluctuating oestrogen levels can be a trigger (a bit like morning sickness in pregnancy!) but falling oestrogen levels can also affect the digestion, leading to a stressed liver, which in turn can cause nausea. You may find taking Milk Thistle Complex helpful, as this is traditionally used to support the liver, and you could add in a soya isoflavone supplement such as Menopause Support. This is used to help gently raise and balance oestrogen levels, thus reducing symptoms. Nausea can be caused by other factors, however, such as low blood sugar or dehydration; so do make sure that you are eating a good diet, with healthy snacks between meals, and drink plenty of plain water as well as your other drinks. Stress can play a huge part in menopause symptoms so trying to keep in under control either through stress remedies or relaxation/deep breathing can be of great benefit.

Do you know of any gummy herbal remedies that can help with nausea? I have a hard time swallowing big pills. If that is in powder form, I can mix it in yogurt. Also, do you mail to the United States? That is where I live.

Hi Beth A dandelion root tincture (liquid) would probably help with the nausea or you could find a dandelion root coffee (from your local health store) should do the trick. Remember to drink lots of plain water and eat little and often as dehydration and low blood sugar levels will cause nausea as well. Here in the UK we do a Milk Thistle Complex which contains dandelion and I recommend that for nausea. We do send to the US but the post is very expensive so I would see if you can get the dandelion where you are. Just be aware that dandelion leaf products such as tea won't help as the leaf is for the kidneys not the liver.
