Funnily enough many hayfever sufferers every year forget this summer unpleasantness until the sneezing season is upon them once more. For the rest of us the sight of the white blossoms on the horse chestnut tree lifts our hearts with delight but for the hayfever sufferer it can be a sign of torment about to begin.
A simple little trick which can be really helpful is preparation! Be ready when the pollen count starts to rise and don't let the words 'pollen count' strike fear in your heart. I would suggest starting to prepare now while the hayfever season is well in the future.
Some simple steps can make this early summer a joy and the sound of the lawnmower doesn't have to be a portent of sniffy days ahead.
Herewith are some simple steps to a less sneezy summer
1. Cut down on your dairy intake as this can contribute to the formation of mucous in the system.
2. Support the immune system in spring ensuring it is in the best condition to deal with the pollen onslaught. Echinacea, which supports the immune system, and some Vitamin C may be helpful.
3. Indulge in organic seasonal berries as these are a good source of vitamins, may help with the health of the mucous membranes and are light and easy to digest.
4. Use net curtains on the bedroom windows to catch the pollen so there's no pollen aggravation at bedtime.
5. Change into nightwear in another room so as not to shake the pollen all over the bedroom.
6. Have a shower before bedtime, which will wash pollen from skin and hair.
7. Dab a little Vaseline on the base of the nostrils to trap the pollen thus avoiding it irritating the nasal passages.
8. At the first sign of an itchy nose or eyes try including Pollinosan in your daily routine. This remedy has the advantage of not causing drowsiness and is also available in a nasal spray.
Hopefully, by preparing for the hayfever season and taking these simple steps, the smell of freshly cut grass may delight rather than cause despair this coming summer.
