Prostasan^® soft capsules – Saw Palmetto capsules for enlarged prostate

Prostasan^®  soft capsules contains an extract of Saw Palmetto berries. It is a registered traditional herbal remedy used to relieve the urinary symptoms of BPH in men with the diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Prostasan^® soft capsules, is a remedy for use in men over 18 years of age (including the elderly) who have been diagnosed by their doctors as having BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia) also known as an enlarged prostate.

Dosage of Prostasan^® soft capsules,  is one capsule daily with food.

Do not chew the capsule.

Do not take this product if you are allergic to any of the ingredients

Do not take this product if you have any hereditary problems of fructose intolerance.

Prostasan® soft capsules, Saw Palmetto soft extract contain an extract of Saw Palmetto berries rich in oil. These are harvested from Saw Palmetto plants indigenous to parts of America and South America, without the use of artificial fertilisers, insecticides or fungicides.

Each Prostasan^® Saw Palmetto soft capsule contains 320mg of herbal extract (as soft extract) from Saw Palmetto fruit (or berries).

Other ingredients include gelatin, glycerol, sorbitol, iron oxide (red, black and yellow) and purified water.

Prostasan^® Saw Palmetto soft capsules can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Side effects
Digestive symptoms

• Feeling sick (nausea)
• Digestive upsets such as sickness ir diarrhoea
• Stomach discomfort

Stop taking this product if you find these are troubling you.Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse if you are concerned.

These side effects are more likely to occur if this product is taken on an empty stomach. This product should be taken with food.

Other

• Allergic reactions such as skin rashes
• Headache

Stop taking this product if these occur.

Remember to see your doctor if:

• Your symptoms of urinary discomfort worsen, persist or do not improve within 8 weeks
• You have blood in your urine
• You have pain when passing urine
• You have difficulty passing urine
• You have a fever or chills
• You have pain in your back
• You have pain or spasms in your groin

1. Who shouldn’t use Prostasan^® soft capsules?

Do not use Saw Palmetto if you are under 18 years of age, if you have a known hypersensitivity to Saw Palmetto berries (or herb) or any of the other ingredients used in Prostasan^® soft capsules.
Do not use Prostasan^® soft capsules unless you have been diagnosed with BPH by a doctor.

2. Can Prostasan^® soft capsules be taken with other medicines?

If you are already taking medication for an enlarged prostate, talk to your doctor before using Prostasan^® soft capsules as it may not be suitable for you. You may use Saw Palmetto products with other medicines. Contact us if in doubt.

3. Why is it in a gelatine capsule?

Prostasan^® contains an extract of Saw Palmetto berries rich in oil. A vegetarian capsule would not be a suitable environment for preserving the Saw Palmetto oil.

4. Why must I have a diagnosis of BPH confirmed by my doctor before starting treatment with Prostasan^® soft capsules?

This is to exclude the possibility of a more serious prostate condition such as diabetes or prostate cancer.Although prostate cancer is a much rarer condition, it becomes more common with increasing age, just as with an enlarged prostate.

5. Can I take Prostasan^® soft capsules long term?

You may use Prostasan^® soft capsules as long as you need the treatment. However, seek medical advice if your symptoms worsen or are accompanied by fever or if you find blood in your urine.
