Sweating - not just for menopausal women

This natural and healthy action of the body has become almost a 'no-no' to the extent that we become embarrassed at the least indication of this normal healthy human activity. A friend mentioned recently that on the odd occasion when her daughter wears fake-tan she finds she sweats much more when she goes for her daily run. Interesting!

Young men often have sweaty feet and if we wear synthetic fabrics we can perspire (the polite word) a bit more. It has also been found that many women tend to perspire more during periods than at other times in their menstrual cycle.

On these warm sunny days we may perspire more than usual and may be uncomfortable with this. There are some healthy natural steps which we can take to ease any discomfort around perspiring too much.

  1. Bathing feet in salt water at night has been thought to draw some of the toxins out of the body. If you live near the sea, walking in seaweed (make sure there's no glass or metal hidden inside first) is a great way of removing toxins from the body.
  2. Dry skin brushing before a shower help with circulation and also support the skin in its detoxing work.
  3. It would be good to keep our love of spicy food under control.
  4. Counterintuitively, drinking plenty of water is a good idea.
  5. Wearing natural fabrics allows our body to 'breathe'.
  6. Using a natural deodorant such as 'Salt of the Earth' is a much better option than one with chemicals which are now known to be toxic. Natural deodorants may need to be applied more frequently.
  7. The herb sage is a wonderful help to women in the menopause to help with those hot flushes (or power surges as some like to call them) and is available in both liquid and tablet form. It can be used for any kind of excessive sweating.

'No sweat' is an expression in common use but our bodies need to perspire and the trick is for us to manage this necessary and healthy bodily function in the healthiest way possible.
