'A little of what you fancy does you good', 'one day at a time', 'don't worry, be happy', are sayings with which we are all familiar, and each one of those offers us a nugget of good advice. But nowadays we can be smothered with good advice coming to us from radio, TV, social media, magazines, newspapers. For goodness sake, turn them OFF!
We all have our own guidance system; we know what's best of us - fresh food, plenty of vegetables, a good night's sleep, some exercise, some social contact and being kind to others.
If we stay up late at night watching 'CSI's, 'Game of Thrones' or 'The Late Debate' we are going to be tired the next day. If we eat too many mucous forming foods or too many refined carbohydrates we won't feel so well. If we gossip it leaves a bad taste in our mouths. We all know what's good to do.
And, although we might often ignore it, we know that being positive first thing in the morning can have a big impact on our day. Stretching, sending positive thoughts to a family member doing an interview, expecting positive outcomes from our meetings, deciding to enjoy our shower, feeling the lovely warm water flowing over our bodies or perhaps even doing a little meditation, all get the day off to a great start.
We don't always do it but inside we know it makes a big difference to our day to start in this calm and enjoyable way. Loud rock music may wake us up but it may also have a negative effect on our stress levels. We know all this and we don't need to be told. Although often times we ignore what's good for us, get up late and rush out the door already stressed before the day even properly begins.
One thing which can get our digestion off to a good start in the morning is taking a teaspoonful of Molkosan in a mug of warm water. Molkosan was known as far back as Roman times as a digestive aid and was thought to have many health benefits.
We can wait until we are in the office or back from the school run to have our good bowl of porridge with chia seeds and cinnamon, but feeling virtuous for having taken our Molkosan, as well as feeling the benefit to our digestive health, gets our day off to a great start. We know what's good for us and we know that being kind to ourselves and to others makes for a better life for us all.
